Memorial

Patricia Clara Maas, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday July 27, 2026, at the HallMar Village surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday August 3, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. Polycarp Hagan. Burial: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. The visitation will be held on Sunday August 2, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. where a Rosary will begin at 2:00.

Patricia was born on November 23, 1931, in Masonville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mae (Kelleher) Brunkhorst. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence. Iowa, and earned an associate’s degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.  She met Donald Maas when they both taught school in Lamont, Iowa.     They married October 6, 1956, and had 40 wonderful years until Don passed away in 1996.  They devoted themselves to raising five girls in a religious loving family.  She married Joe Creen in 2017, whose love brought her much happiness. 

Pat was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where she was active in St. Annes Circle and All Saints Prayer Group and taught CCD for many years.   She was a great cook, known for her pies at Thanksgiving and making spaghetti and waffles for her grandchildren.   Pat loved playing bridge and games with her family.  Pat was known for her kindness to everyone and never said a harsh word.

Patricia is survived by her daughters: Kathy Klotz of Seward, Nebraska, children, Eric, Tyler (Abby), Ryan; Karen (Kevin) Eichmann of Des Moines, Iowa daughter Erica (Chris); Elizabeth (Rich) Lockhart of Iowa City, Iowa, children Calea, Don (Jenna), Gabbi (Drew), Niki, Rick (Selene); Margaret Brockman of Papillion, Nebraska, children Heath, Nich, Bryce (Maddie);  deceased daughter Patricia (Pierce and Caroll) Brockman of Richardson, Texas, children; Jerad (Ami). Shana (James), Anne (Riley), Jake (Clare), Joe, Emma, Kathryn, Michael and 19 great grandchildren. Her husband Joe Creen and his children. Pat’s sister-in-law Edna Brunkhorst, sister Marlene Goetschel, brothers Dr. Joe (Ann) Brunkhorst, Philip (Ann) Brunkhorst, brother-in-law Jim Piersall. 

Patricia was preceded in death her husband Don, daughter Patricia, brother Dr. John Brunkhorst, sisters Mary McFadden and Monica Piersall. Her brothers-in-law, Dr. John Goetschel and John McFadden.

Memorials may be made to Camp Courgeous or All Saints Catholic School.
