James Edward Moran passed away on August 17, 2026, in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29th, from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 am Funeral Service at the New Covenant Bible Church, 3090 North Center Point Road, Cedar Rapids, IA 52411. Interment will be private.

He was born on February 15,1953, in Princeton, IL to James Eugene Henry and Doris Martha (Olson) Moran. James began his career working for Honeywell as a computer technician and retired from the Waldinger Corporation where he worked as an HVAC controls technician. James enjoyed volunteering for community organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, Linn-Mar band program, and Habitat for Humanity. James also served as a parking lot greeter and worked with the youth programs at New Covenant Bible Church. James loved spending time outdoors grilling and smoking meats in the garden shed that he built and converted into a smokehouse, caring for his family’s park-like yard, playing frisbee with his dogs, and fishing.  He was a fan of Willie Nelson, bluegrass music, took joy in setting up his childhood train set for the holidays, and was a licensed amateur radio operator. James loved sharing his family’s passions through travel. Memorable trips were made to Disney World, the Georgia Aquarium, a tour of the Hawaiian Islands, and many family road trips. He loved to spend time with his family and was loved by all.

Jed is survived by his wife, Shirley; children and their spouses, James and Heidi, Christopher and Jamie, Alan and Tiffany, and Alex and Jiwon; grandchildren, Helaina, Breleigh, and Easton; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: James and Doris, and sister, Bonnie.
