William J. Heinemann (Bill) passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, surrounded by his loving family.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date this summer.

Bill was born on November 2, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa to John and Ann (Bjornas) Heinemann. Like most boys of his era, his days were filled with playing sports with neighborhood friends. He could often be spotted biking off with a baseball mitt, a basketball and his swim gear almost every summer day, but always checking in for lunch with family. Bill was always making sure he was on his bike route to deliver evening paper by 5 p.m. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1960, he headed to the University of Iowa where he became a passionate Hawkeye fan before joining the appliance sales workforce. His favorite role was working in sales / marketing management for Amana for over 30 years. It’s where he honed his tennis, running and golfing skills as well as built many relationships with co-workers, customers and small business owners before his retirement. Retirement was filled with travel and time for his biggest passion, golf and watching Hawkeye Sports with a bowl of his homemade popcorn.

William is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diana, whom he married April 15, 1989 in Cedar Rapids; children, Liddie (Phil) Ribble ,Eric Heinemann, Dan (Lisa) Lamb and Chris (Eric) Lamb, his sister Barb (John) Hill and brother-in-law, Randy Ryan. His greatest pleasure was being a grandfather to Charles, Brady, Jack, Katie, Layney and Ethan. He especially enjoyed summer camp with the grandkids and loved it when everyone was gathered around dinner table in conversation and laughter.

Bill and his family want to thank Dr. Carlos Chan and the surgical team at the University of Iowa Hospital and Dr.Jasmine Nabi and the cancer team at Hall-Perrine Mercy for their excellent care and medical expertise.
