I was a student of Miss Stellwagen (as we called her) for freshman algebra at Lutheran West in 1962. It was she who birthed my lifelong interest and subsequent career in mathematics. I owe her my undying gratitude for that. I also remember on occasionally sitting near her in chapel an listening to her beautiful singing voice.
