Memorial

Eldred M. Gerhold, 107, passed away December 26, 2025. A visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, from 10:00 a.m., until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Eldred was born March 15, 1918, on the family farm near Palo, to Henry and Sophia Gerhold. Eldred was blind at birth; he could see light and dark until he completely lost his vision at ten years of age. He graduated from the School for the Blind in Vinton. He made custom woven rugs for many years. He played the piano and sang his entire life; he played for weddings, care centers and at his church. 

Eldred is survived by his nieces, Lora Behrens and Cheryl (Dave) Cudworth; nephews, Delbert (Karen) Kray and John Gerhold; several great nieces, nephews, cousins and close friend, Judy McCarty. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Erma Gerhold, Elsie (Karl) Kray and Henry (Esther) Gerhold; niece, Barbara Thompson and nephew, Virgil Kray.
