Departed on Apr 11, 2025

Memorial

With sadness we announce the passing of Richard Paul “Dick” English Sr. on April 11, 2025, at the age of 97. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Dick was a familiar character known about town and loved by many who knew him; from his early days at the East Side Maid-Rite, his popularity at the piano bars at the Flame Room and The Lighthouse, and karaoke nights at the Sip-n-Stir; as well as through his many entrepreneurial years in food service, janitorial and industrial cleaning services; as the proud owner and sponsor of Mr. Bubbles, Inc. and by those in the 16” Slo-Pitch softball world where he was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 1983.

Dick joins his wife Shirley M. English and son, William “Billy Brad” English who preceded him in his journey home. He leaves behind his loving children; Linda Kay English-Keeler (Bob), Richard Paul “Dick” English, Jr. (Anita), Robert Charles “Bobby” English (Jennifer), devoted daughter Cynthia Marie “Cyndy” English (Don), and Tracy Allen English (Becca); his loving grand and great-grandchildren, others who were special in his life, and his true and loyal friend, John Willmsen.

A special thank you to the team at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for their care and compassion – a band of angels.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18th at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  A gathering for friends and family will follow – location to be announced on Friday.
