Memorial

Michael R. “Mike” Smith, 76, of Hiawatha, passed away, November 15, 2024. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Eternal Love. A visitation will be held from 1-3 PM, Wednesday, November 20th at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. 

Mike was born on February 26, 1948, to Eugene Smith and Patricia Pearson. He was employed at Longview Fibre for 41 years. Mike served his country in the U.S. Army. He married JoAnne Cornwell in 1968. From this union two daughters were born: Michelle Aubury of Littleton, CO and Janelle Meador of Davenport. Mike was a very avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs, and NASCAR. 

Additional survivors include his wife of 35 years, Karren Smith; 6 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, Jerry Wiltsey & Rita – Walker, Randy Wiltsey- Center Point, Doug Wiltsey & Cindy – Wyoming, IA, Tom Wiltsey & Kookie – Leola, PA, Gary Wiltsey & Virginia – Clarence, George Wiltsey – Walker, Susan Primmer & Rick – Walker, and Cindy Jones – Marion; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend whom he called the “sister” he never had – Kathie Johnson.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Smith; mother, Patricia Haas; father, Donald Haas; brother, Eugene “Pete” Smith; and step-daughter, Tina M. Lee.
