Betty Kay Mallie, 80 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday May 20, 2024, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, where a visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment: St. Boniface Cemetery in New Vienna, Iowa. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Joseph Mallie, her siblings, Mark (Linda) De Sotel, Ned De Sotel, Sandee (Gar) Otto, Brad (Kathleen) De Sotel and Sue (Rob) Schultz, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Bonnie De Sotel and a brother, Rod De Sotel.
Betty was born on September 3, 1943, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Alice (Berns) De Sotel. She married Joseph Mallie on July 25, 1984, in Tipton, Iowa. She graduated from the high school in St. Boniface in New Vienna and received her Bachelors’ degree from Viterbo in Wisconsin and both Master’s degrees from Greeley, Colorado, specializing in disabled students. Betty was a Teacher for the Cedar Rapids School System after many years Tipton Consolidated Schools. Betty was a faith member of St Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing the piano and organ, where she played at Manor Care, and also enjoyed playing in the Bell Choir. She cherished the many trips she and Joseph took. She truly enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
