Dave was born on April 13, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated Roosevelt High School in 1954. An avid Hawkeye fan, Dave attended the University of Iowa. Dave was united in marriage with Kay Capper in 1958. Dave and Kay resided in Hiawatha, IA to raise their three children: Dawn, Brad, and Lisa.

Dave started his sales career selling Volkswagens and Porsches in Cedar Rapids before selling corrugated packaging at Downing Box. In 1978, he became part owner of Distinctive Packaging & Assemblers, Inc. He started CCB Packaging with his son, Brad, and Darrel Berry in 1988, where he remained until his retirement.

In addition to a successful business career, Dave enjoyed Kansas City Chiefs football and all things Hawkeye. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was a life sponsor for Ducks Unlimited. Dave’s happy place was his cabin in Ivanhoe on the Cedar River. Treasured memories were made there with friends and family.

Following his retirement, Dave and Kay spent winters basking in the sun in Naples, FL. On any given day, you could find Dave sitting in his favorite chair doing the crossword puzzle or reading the newspaper. A family man through and through, Dave’s greatest treasure was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. “Be good to your people,” was Dave’s advice, and he lived by these words every day.

Dave is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kay; daughter Dawn (Jeff) Bremer; son Brad (Connie) Canfield; and daughter Lisa (Jason) Wilke; grandchildren Nic (Abby) Canfield; Holly Burk (Karl Eliason) and great-grandchildren Helo and Liv; Chelsea (Jeff) Betts and great-grandchildren Ronan and Juniper; Erica (Ben) Peterson and great-granddaughter Zoey; Josh (Chambray) Burk; Natalie Canfield; Jordan Schultz; Colton (Kaley) Schultz; Hailey Schultz; and many close friends he considered family.

In addition to his parents Morris and Isabell Canfield, Dave was preceded in death by sister Gloria Woodhouse; in-laws Lyle and Margaret Capper; sister-in-law Bernita Ohde; and brother-inlaw Chuck Shaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family to be donated to causes close to Dave’s heart.
