Born on May 6, 1957, in Hollywood, Florida, Kersten was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Beverly (Monahan) Werner. Throughout her life, Kersten made significant contributions to the field of education, holding various roles at Upper Iowa University and Kaplan University. Her commitment to fostering knowledge and growth left a lasting impact on those she encountered.

Survived by her siblings, Joel, Tracey, Jeb, and Stephanie, Kersten leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. Cherishing her memory are her children, Austin Shepard (Amber Hutchins) and Ashlee (Mitch) Zimmerman, along with her grandchildren, Rylee, Kree, and Chase, and her special friend, Steve. She is also survived by her loyal canine companion, Cashew and her grand dog, Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kersten's zest for life was reflected in her diverse interests and passions. Whether immersed in the pages of a good book, expressing herself through crafting and painting, creating culinary delights in the kitchen, exploring new destinations, or relishing quality time with her family, Kersten embraced every moment with enthusiasm.

One of her most treasured destinations was Destin, Florida, where Kersten and her family shared countless memorable vacations. It was a place of joy and connection that held a special spot in her heart.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ocean Conservancy, People of Urban and Rural Education, or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in honor of Kersten's memory. This gesture reflects her compassion and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others, echoing the kindness she demonstrated throughout her own life.
