Raymond was born on August 8, 1928, in Urbana, IA. He was the son of the late Raymond S. and Gladys (Sanders) Ferguson. On August 8, 1948, Raymond married the love of his life, Betty Lou Hummel, at Pratt Creek Church in Vinton, IA. For many years,  he was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities such as a session member, trustee, Sunday School Teacher, a youth group leader, and the church treasurer. After his retirement, he joined the Viola United Methodist Church. Raymond was a veteran in the US Army serving during the Korean War. He worked as an accountant with CRST from its beginning until his retirement in 1994. Raymond loved to help people with their accounting and bookkeeping. He was an avid reader, always reading the newspapers and books on his Nook. Raymond enjoyed going out to eat, usually having coffee and pastries in the morning and coffee and pie in the afternoon.

Those left to cherish Raymond's memory are his daughter, Vickie (Ronald) McGovern of Anamosa IA; his grandchildren, John (Denise) McGovern, Patrick McGovern and granddaughter-in-law Diane McGovern, all of Anamosa IA. His great-grandchildren, Alec Munier, Elaine Munier, Calvin McGovern, Curtis McGovern, Madeline McGovern, and Elizabeth McGovern, and his great-great grandchildren, Kaedence, Garreth, and Coen; his sister, Evelyn (Dean) Owens of Cedar Rapids, IA , sister-in-law Virginia Ferguson of Toddville IA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou, his parents, his brothers, Marvin, Louis and Warren, and sister-in-law Janelle Ferguson.

Ray especially enjoyed the visits he shared with his nieces Linda and Lori Ferguson and his honorary granddaughters, Kaelee Freeman and Katie Kalb.  He wanted them to know how much he appreciated their kindness and attention, hearing about their days and sharing stories with them.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Viola United Methodist Church or to Above and Beyond Hospice.

The family would like to thank Jones Regional Hospital, skilled nursing and palliative care staff, Dr. Kilburg, and the staff at Above and Beyond Hospice.
