Scott R. Vaske, 64, of Marion, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 31, 2024.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel State Room from 3 to 7 PM and an hour prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:30 – 10:30 AM Monday, September 9, 2024, at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, 104 3rd Street SW, Dyersville, IA 52040. Interment will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Dyersville.

Scott was born in Dubuque, IA to Richard and Patricia (Beckmann) Vaske on October 4, 1959. He grew up in Dyersville, the oldest of six children. After graduating from Beckman High School, Class of 1978, he received his Associate of Arts – Accounting from NIACC of Mason City in 1980 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts – Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa in 1982.  Scott worked as an accountant for over thirty-three years at United Life Insurance Company – a subsidiary of United Fire Group. Scott was united in marriage to Lois Parks, April 17, 2004, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Scott thrived on an active life and baseball was always an integral part of that. He played for the Dyersville Ready Mix (later Bard Concrete) baseball team AKA the Bumble Bees and Cement Heads after high school. He then coached the Dyersville Nationals Babe Ruth youth baseball team in the early 1980s.  He was also very proud to be a 26+ year member of the YMCA where he would swim and work out daily.  Other interests included golfing, biking, being a St. Louis Cardinal fan, and attending any activity that his niece and nephews participated in. Scott loved to spend time with his family and was well respected by all, especially his nieces and nephews who learned many life lessons from him.

Scott is survived by his wife Lois (Parks) Vaske; father, Richard Vaske; siblings, Deb (Al) Link, Patrick (Cynthia) Vaske, Kim (Jim) Packingham, Terry (Leah) Vaske and Jackie (Adam) Scott; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Dolores Parks; sisters-in-law, Angela (Dean) Tesar, Gloria (Don) Tesar and Mary (Matthew) Whitters.

He was preceded into death by his mother, Patricia; father-in-law, Loren Parks; as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles (Becky) Parks.

The family extends gratitude to Stephanie our Hospice Nurse who was an angel on earth and the amazing medical staff who treated Scott at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Lois also wants to extend a special thanks to each family member, friend and neighbor who showed love, support and encouragement along this journey.  We never could have made it a day without it.
