RIP my friend from Aquarius. One of my funniest memories was the party when you came as Carol Burnett dressed in the Gone The Wind scene. Curtains and all! Our sympathy to Chuck and we’ll see you on the other side. John and Carol Schreiber

Chuck and Family, Sue was the most joyful person I ever met. We taught together at McKinley many years ago and rarely saw each other after that, but anytime we got together, I felt like Sue was a best friend. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Sue and I were "next door neighbors" while at McKinley Middle School. With classrooms so close together, we spent a great deal of time monitoring the hallways between classes. She was a consistent source of positive energy and motivation - an excellent teacher who modeled high standards and loving care. I shall always appreciate her support in helping me find clarity during life's struggles. Peace be with you, Sue.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the family. My memories of my friendship with Sue are so long term….we met when we were newly out of college and shared the Pi Phi sisterhood for decades. May she rest in peace and be remembered for her joyful enthusiasm.

Besides singing with Sue in choir and attending the same Adult Bible Study class for several years, we would occasionally work together to try to help some of the many people Sue delighted in helping. It was an honor to know Sue, to be a friend to her, and she was a wonderful influence for my walk with Jesus. Sue was a lady who loved people as Christ Jesus loves them and I imagine she is having many wonderful one-on-one talks with Him now. See you again someday, Sue.

Please accept my condolence for the loss of Sue. I always appreciated her energy and willingness to help out when needed. A special memory I have of her is her attendance at the His Women seminar that was held in Cedar Rapids for several years. We always sang "Bind Us Together" at the end of our day and over the years it was a song that had gotten less familiar to people. Knowing that Sue loved to sing and that she had a strong pleasing voice, I would ask her to come up on the stage and help to lead that song. It was always a joy to have her stand by me holding hands and helping lead the group as we ended our day. No doubt she is leading a group of singers in heaven right now as she raises her voice to express her love and praise for the Lord. It is a Great Memory!!!!!

It is with sadness I discovered I missed Sue’s service and funeral.
I worked with Sue for 9 years during my years at McKinley Middle School. Sue was a dedicated and good teacher. She retained high expectations for her students as well as for herself and others around her. She always presented herself as a professional woman not only in her dress but also her command and delivery in her classroom. You understood students learned in Sue Dostal’s class and behavior was never an issue.
Sue was a passionate woman; she took her profession seriously and wasn't afraid to voice an opinion whether it was one you agreed with or not. She had her standards.
The same was true about her comments about her family. It was clear she was very proud of the Dostal family and all it’s members. Her husband, Chuck, was a legend in the van Deest family dating from his extraordinary Roosevelt high school accomplishments and association with my dad during those years.
My sincerest condolences are extended to the entire Dostal Family and all those who loved Sue. As always, the final assessment is did Sue make a difference? The simple answer is that Sue did.

She was my beloved 7th grade teacher. How she dealt with all us crazy teenage girls and boys I'll never know. Rest well ma'am. You were so loved
