She worked at the Colony Inn, the Brick Haus, and the Ronneburg for over 65 years. Along with her job, Harriet loved to volunteer at nursing homes in both Middle Amana, and also in Cedar Rapids.  Harriet loved her dolls, Shirley Temple was her favorite. She loved doing puzzles, crocheting, reading the Gazette in the morning with her coffee. Harriet enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Dancing with the Stars.  Harriet had a heart of gold. She had a caring compassionate nature, loving all people and animals. She wanted to help everybody, especially her children and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was to buy things from the children selling popcorn, cookies, and fruit boxes.

Those left to cherish Harriet’s memory are her children, Elaine (Bob) Sample, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Diane Jeck, of Walford, IA, and Linda Zapata, of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Jessica) Jeck, Jason Jeck, Jennifer Jeck, Shawn (Amanda) Zapata, and Aaron (Jessica) Zapata; her great-grandchildren.
