Maureen Stevens, 87, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully Monday, November 13, 2023, in her home.  Services will be held Monday, November 20th, 2023 at Cedar Memorial West Side Chapel.  Visitation will be at 10:00 am and funeral following at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest by her family at a later time.

Maureen was born August 30, 1936 in England to Thomas and Ivy Bestwick.  She met David Stevens while he was stationed in England with the US Airforce and married a year later.  When he was discharged, they moved back to Iowa to build their life and were together until his death in 2001.

She enjoyed traveling, music, swimming, sports and gardening. During retirement she found new interests in writing and painting.  She always tried to set an example for her children and grandchildren.  Always be united with your family, be strong, make your own way in life and have fun!  She made her little corner of the world a beautiful place and anyone that went to her home was welcomed.  Dementia and Aphasia slowed her down but never took her sparkle away.

Maureen is survived by 4 of her children; Linda Carlton-Berger of Cedar Rapids, Diane (Gary) Schmuecker of Watkins, Dennis (Pam) Stevens of Mobile AL, and Tracy (Ken) Oster of Cedar Rapids.  11 Grandchildren; Amy (Bret) Mowlds, Mitch Carlton, Angela (Clint) Ewing, Anita (Brandon Hendrickson) Schmuecker, Gretchen Kramer, Amanda Tampir, Heather Stevens, Hannah Oster, Matthew Oster, Ashely Stevens, Britni (Jason) Wooley.  15 Great Grandchildren and 1 on the way, 1 Great Great Grandchild. Sister Bridget (Michael) Webster of Ipswich England, Sister-In-Law Maureen Bestwick of Ipswich England. Brother-In-Laws George Kadrmas of Traer, Lyle Gerdemann of Cedar Rapids,  many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews in America and England including special friends; Marlene Votrobeck and Connie Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Patrick and Roderick; son Kevin Stevens, David Stevens, In Laws Julia & Faye Stevens, Patricia (Stevens) Kadrmas, Duane & Marilyn (Stevens) Smith, Nancy (Stevens) Gerdemann, Janet Stevens and Jimmy Stevens and special friends Jean Cooper, Beverly Forrester and Patricia Garwood.

Thank you to the Mercy Hospice Team and The Gardens for her care the last 2 years.

Mo was a big personality and she will be greatly missed by many.
