Richard Lee (Dick) Keilholtz Sr. passed into eternity on Thursday May 18, 2023 after a long and brave battle with COPD. 

Dick was born in Volga, Iowa on December 26, 1942, to Forrest and Nettie Keilholtz. When he was young, his family moved to Cedar Rapids, which became his home for most of his life. He received his GED in 1983, and was very proud of this achievement. 

Dick worked hard his whole life, and his employers included Midas, Allis Chalmers, Harnischfeger, Rockwell-Goss, and Universal Engineering. He retired in 1999. 

Dick was a proud Viet Nam veteran, serving ‘in-country’ from 1967-1968. When he returned home, he was stationed in Boston, where he met his future wife, Edith Mae Baker. They married in 1969 and were devoted to each other for 47 years, until Edith preceded him in death in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Randy.

Dick is survived by children, Melissa (Todd) Yock of Toddville Iowa, and Rich (Tabitha) Keilholtz of Pueblo West, Colorado, grandchildren Brandon Mather, of Cedar Rapids, Reagan, Madeline, Wyatt, and Maddux Keilholtz of Pueblo West, Colorado, and Danielle (Tim) Marsh, great-grandchildren Gracie and Landon, two brothers, James (Carol, deceased), Ron (Karen), and a sister Judy (Jim) Holub. 

Dick was a friend to all and an incredibly generous human being who was always there for friends and family. He touched and enriched the lives of all with whom he came in contact.

Services will be held at Cedar Memorial on Wednesday, May 24, at 11 am, with a visitation starting at 10 am. A graveside service with a military salute will follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.  A lunch and fellowship time for family members will follow.

The family is grateful to dad’s caregivers and other staff from the Iowa Veteran’s Home, and to the Disabled American Veterans organization, for all the generosity and love their staff showed Dick throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, they ask you to consider a donation to DAV.
