Mary Pauline Hook, 89, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away on May 12, 2023, at home with family. Visitation: 5 - 8 PM, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary was born on September 27, 1933, in Hedrick, IA, the daughter of Lewis and Cora (Blomme) Gettings. She married Robert O. Hook on March 30, 1955, in Ottumwa, IA at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Catholic Church. Mary worked as a secretary at Cedar Rapids Washington High School from 1969 until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was part of St. Anne’s Circle.  She was also a member of Cedar Valley Detachment Marine Corps Auxiliary, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Cedar Rapids Retired School Personnel, and was a charter member of American Business Women. Mary volunteered in the gift shop at Mercy Medical Center. She was honored to be inducted into the Cedar Rapids Washington High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and Creighton basketball. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. 

Survivors include one daughter Debra Barry and her husband Brian of Leawood, KS, three sons Michael and his wife Carol of Omaha, NE, Patrick of Cedar Rapids, and James of Henderson, NV, nine grandchildren Adam (Nichole) Hook, Katie (Eric) Jacobsen, Sara Hook, Ben (Kelly) Barry, Nicholas (Holly) Barry, Sheena (Chris) Caton, Lucas (Kelsie) Barry, Scot Hook, and Samantha Hook, fourteen great grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents Cora and Lewis Gettings, husband Robert Hook, brother Paul (Sally) Gettings, and parents-in-law Ruth and Jack Hook.
