Abigail "Abby" Pumroy

Departed on Sep 12, 2022

To the Pumroy family: Please accept my condolences on your loss. It is never easy losing someone you love. Hold on to those memories, continue to hear her voice and don’t ever stop talking to her. She is with you always. I hope that comfort and peace come to you. I know that she will truly be missed. She was a wonderful mother and wife and loved by all. I had the privilege of working with her at Washington High School for many years. Students loved and respected her. Prayers for your hearts to heal. You are in my prayers and thoughts. May God bless all of you. Jim Voss

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Pumroy was my kindergarten teacher and I have sweet memories from that time. Every time I have seen her through the years, she always remembered me-that meant the world. She will be missed.

Pumroy Family: I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Senora was my Spanish teacher at Wash from 1988-1992. I have so many fond memories of her. All educators are special, some are extra special. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

My family and I extend our condolences to you during this difficult time. Senora taught me Spanish when I attended Washington High School. She was more than that- she offered a smile, and I loved it when she laughed! She had a positive impact on so many lives... She will be missed. Sending out prayers and warm thoughts.

My condolences to you Tom and the rest of your family, This came as quite a shock. Wanted to write somethimg because we will be in Des Moines this weekend and will miss the Memorial. Best to all.

Pumroy Family, I was saddened to hear of Abby's passing. Always a smile and kind word when we would see you all at the Kernel's games! Marta and Tom, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Psalm 119:28 “My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.”

So sorry about Abby's passing, Abby was a great neighbor and will always remember her and Ralphie walking the neighborhood. Tom and family, you are in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Sincerest condolences to the Pumroy family. May you have the strength to celebrate Abby's life and find comfort in the days ahead.

To Tom and family, It was sad to hear of Abby's passing. My condolences, thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time of closure. Abby certainly was a natural teacher, so energetic with anything she was involved with, her students, fellow staff members, all those Kernal Players you shared your home with each summer over the years, etc, etc We certain were fortunate to have her early in her career at CB Vernon Jr Hi in Marion. You have so many memories and blessings that will be with you for life and may the flicker of a light or candle always be special to you, Abby certainly beamed! God's Peace be with you. Jurine Borton Moore, CB Vernon Jr Hi staff 1964-''76

Tom, B.J., Kyle and Marta: Abby made an impact in so many lives as a dedicated teacher, child advocate, Kernels' mom and Latinex supporter. Her legacy will endure, one of which you can be especially proud! We are blessed to have had her in our lives!

Tom, I didn't know you and Abby very long but for the time I did know you, I found both of you as great people and it has been a pleasure to know you. With the loss of Abby, you must go on alone and I hope to be able to continue to be your friend. I understand your loss because my Mary passed away not too long ago so I can sympathize with you in your grief. It goes away but slowly and will never be totally gone. My condolences to the rest of your family. Jerry Chaffee

Abby was my junior high spanish teacher (probably soon after she started teaching) and I remember as if it was yesterday, watching her walk around the room, studying the way she walked, her shoes, dress and ease as she taught us Spanish phrases and dialogues. She was such a sweet teacher and person. My family also attended First Presbyterian Church, as your family did. In fact, my mother, Lorna, is still living and I have a church directory from 2004 which has you and Abby, Tom. She truly lived a life of service and giving to others. I became an elementary teacher, but before that, I aspired to teach Spanish and wanted to learn another language. I started teaching 10 years after Abby. However, my 34 years of teaching pale compared to 50! I retired to take care of grandchildren and family!, so, in a sense, I am still teaching! Gone too soon, she was truly a beautiful woman.

Dear Kyle, B.J., Marta, and Tom - Señora Pumroy was my Spanish teacher at Wash in the early 90s (I was in Kyle's year). I appreciated how she shared so much about Hispanic/Latino culture in addition to the language, and I still remember the capitals of South and Central American countries from the songs we learned. I was not an amazing language student, but I know it was good for me to try to figure out what to say for my "anuncio" every morning. I thought of her a lot this summer when I traveled to Puerto Rico for the first time. Your family will be in my heart and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Abby’s passing. She was a wonderful teacher and person, and I will never forget the many hours I spent learning Spanish in the Pumroy home. My condolences to Abby’s entire family and she will be greatly missed.
