Dr. John Louis Duffy, Jr, age 89, died at home October 14, 2022 in Walker, IA. Services will be Friday, October 28th, 2022 at 11a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, IA. A private inurnment will take place in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Walker, IA following the service.  A small reception will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, IA.     

He was born January 20, 1933 in Boone, IA.  John was a loving and brilliant husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, doctor, and scholar.  He shared his wisdom, generosity, and kindness with those around him.  He inspired all he encountered and educated those that would listen.

John attended Boone High School in Boone, IA; the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN (BA); Iowa State University in Ames, IA; Indian Extension in South Bend, IN; Drake University in Des Moines, IA; University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA; University of Wisconsin Madison in Madison, WI (MD); Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA (Internship); Mental Health Institute in Independence, IA (Psychiatric Residency).

John taught Latin at Notre Dame.  He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, MN; the Hastings State Hospital in Hastings, MN; the Wyoming State Hospital in Laramie, WY; the Forest City Hospital in Forest City, IA; the Iowa Department of Corrections/Anamosa State Penitentiary in Anamosa, IA, and as a clinical psychiatrist in Mt. Pleasant, IA. 

John developed and grew a thriving private practice in Psychiatry and Neurology in downtown St. Paul, MN.  There he diagnosed, assessed, and treated thousands of patients for a variety of psychological, behavioral, cognitive, and physical disorders and complaints.

John met Sandra Kay (LaPole) Duffy in Iowa.  On May 22nd, 1999 they were married at Sacred Heart Church in Walker, IA. 

John was preceded in death by his father-John L. Duffy, Sr; mother-Mary A. (Lux) Duffy; son John W. (Jack) Duffy; daughter Janet M. Duffy; deceased spouse Carola M. (Feirn) Duffy.

John is survived by his wife Sandra Kay (LaPole) Duffy; children, Celia (William) Cameron; Brian L. Duffy; David F. Duffy; Kim Tennyson (Jon Rafel); Darin (Jan) Tennyson; Tina (Bob) Ginger; grandchildren, Anthony Duffy (Caitlin Johnson); Caleb Duffy; Isabel Cameron (Tanner Maki); Lesley Eiken (Travis Pederson); Mary (Brad) Trevaskis; Sam Eiken; Casey (Brittany) Long; Rebecca Tennyson; Garrett Tennyson; Drew Lane; Derek (Feliciti) Lane; and great grandchildren, Alexandra, Jackson, Carlee, Aiden, John, Molly, Norah, Wade.
