Memorial

Larry Joe Davis, 88 of Hiawatha died Monday, June 20, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At Larry’s request there will be no visitation or service.  Family and friends will celebrate Larry and Sally’s life at a later date. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Survivors include his two sons, Douglas (Kathy) Davis of Hawkeye, Iowa; Jeffrey (Pat) Davis of Hiawatha, Iowa; four grandchildren, Izzi (Aaron) Byrd, Marshall (David) Sunnes, Brian (Natalie) Davis and Tara (Todd) Dunford; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Owen (Karyl) Davis; daughter -in-law, Greta Davis of West Union, Iowa; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse Sally; and two sons, Mike, and Dan.

Larry was born on March 06, 1934, in Fayette, Iowa the son of Benjamin and Frances (Sterns) Davis.  He grew up on the family farm in Fayette.  Larry married Sally Berg on May 5, 1956, in Oelwein, Iowa.  They would have been married 66 years.  Larry worked construction for Skogman for 25 years.  He then worked for General Mills before retiring.  

Larry enjoyed reading westerns, watching cowboy movies and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and reminiscing about his life memories.  He will be remembered for telling stories about his memories, all throughout life, in great detail.  Larry was a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the nurses and therapists at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Transitional Rehabilitation Center, Nurse Practitioner Erin, the UnityPoint St. Luke’s Pulmonary Unit, and their therapy team (Bailey) for all their caring and compassionate care given to Larry. 

A memorial fund has been established.
