Darrel R. Charlier, 86, of Marion died on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Memorial Celebration of Life Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Darrel was born December 1, 1935, to Edward and Jeanette Charlier. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1954. Darrel worked on the family farm before being drafted into the United States Army. He married Barbara A. Lange on September 21, 1958, at the family farm. The newlyweds went to Hawaii where Darrel finished his Army service.

Their first daughter was born in Hawaii. They returned to Marion and Darrel was hired at Sears where he worked as an appliance repairman until his retirement. Their second daughter was born in Cedar Rapids. 

Darrel enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping, bluegrass festivals, coffee club at Hy-Vee and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the Marion Evening Lions Club. 

Survivors include his wife, daughters Debra and Dawn, brother Ron (Sandy), brother Lyle (Sharon) and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Jeanette Charlier.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice or The Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to say Thank You to those involved with the wonderful care Darrel received during his long battle with this disease.
