James Earl Johnson, 88, of Robins, passed away from dementia on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. James was born on October 16, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of and Lester Earl and Ruth (Goodrow) Johnson. He graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids. James served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Barbara Miller on April 18, 1952, in Rock Island, Illinois. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a barber and later as a Cedar Rapids Firefighter. He spent many years as a speed skating coach. James also enjoyed training horses, harness racing, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Barbara of Robins, children Becky Mabb of Swisher, Dan J. Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Dawn (Brad) Vircks of Hiawatha, and Jan (Terry) Bringman of Toddville, sister Dorothy Rowden of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Powell of Central City, Josh (Jen) Dearborn of Springville, Bryan (Jenni) Johnson of Robins, Jacob (Sarah) Dearborn of Cedar Rapids, Thad (Whitney) Washburn of Cedar Rapids, and Austin (Catherine) Washburn of Coralville, great-grandchildren T.J. (Becca) Salmonson of MN, Torey (Richard) Doughman of MN, Tanner (Jess) Salmonson serving in the U.S. Air Force in NJ, Breanna (Cory) Bieganek of MN, Taylor Dearborn of Cedar Rapids, Madilynn and Isabella Dearborn of Springville, Hadley, Rhyle, and Tilmon Johnson of Robins, Adryan and Asher Dearborn of Cedar Rapids, Mason and Stella Washburn of Cedar Rapids, Evelyn Washburn of Coralville, and great-great grandchild James and Emmet Doughman of MN, and Avery and Carson Salmonson of MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother-in-law Floyd Rowden, son-in-law Larry Mabb, daughter-in-law Mary Johnson and grandsons Ryan Washburn and Jordan McDonald. 

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in James name.
