Joyce Ellen Gaffey, 92, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 9th, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospice Center.
Joyce was born on October 30, 1928 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lester and Irene (Poetter) Haessly. She was married on April 24, 1948 to her loving husband of 37 years, Francis LeRoy Gaffey. Joyce was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan and found joy in birdwatching, gardening, walking, and her kids and grandchildren. She was a friend to all, including her beloved stray cats and grand-dogs.
Joyce is survived by her five children, Greg (Jackie) Gaffey of Milton, WI., Kim (Marykay) Gaffey of Lebanon, OH., Jody (Brian) Wohlers of Marion, Julie (Dan) Roethler of Beloit, WI., and Scott Gaffey of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren, Lukas, Chelsea, Laura, Ben, Jessie, Katherine, Alex, Bradley, Amanda, Mitchell, and Molly; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Geraldine Vickery, grandson Andrew James Roethler, and love of her life, husband Francis.
In honor of Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate the full life she lived and spread her ashes at one of her most beloved places.
