Charles "Chick" Atkinson

Born in Washington, IA
Born on May 24, 1924
Departed on May 24, 2020

Chick was the youngest of my cousins. He was raised on a farm and liked to call me "The City Kid." I was a junior in high school when he came home from the war and we shared a bedroom in my parents' home in Cedar Rapids until he married Marjorie.

I met your dad in the 1970’s when I worked at the Cedar Rapids Police Department and he would stop in daily to pick up notices of street lights that needed repair. He always had a smile on his face and I always looked forward to visiting with him. I still think of him when I drive up Center Point Road where he lived and see the old street light in the front yard that I remember he got many years ago when the lights were updated on Country Club Parkway. Your dad was a kind man. I am very sorry for your loss.

I worked with Chick at the Operating Dept. He was a great guy and fun to be around . He will long be remembered . God Bless.

My sincere condolences to the family. I cleaned for Chick at Garnett for a couple of years. He was a wonderful guy and I will be truly missed

I live at Garnet place for the past two and a half years and really got to know your dad and Grandpa he would always tease me because my name was Marge and his wife's name was Marge. We would always stop and visit every day on the way to or from the dining room he was such a nice man I am glad at this time in my life I was able to meet him you were blessed to have such a wonderful father and grandfather.

I have some very fond memories of my Uncle Chick. Specially as we traveled and camped across country in 1963. I sure had fun that summer. I still brag to friends about him.

Made you laugh or at least smile when you were around him at work. He made CPR/First aid interesting. Condolences to the Atkinson family.

I worked with Chick at IE in the early '70's. As a very young lady, he always gave me great advice with a genuine smile. I'm grateful to learn he lived a long, fruitful life.

I am saddened to hear of Uncle Chick's passing. He was a great uncle to me and my brother. I have many wonderful memories of him during my youth. He was an amazing man who I will never forget. Rest in Peace Uncle!

Chick was always one of my favorite patients. I looked forward to one of his jokes or silly stories every time he came in. He was a wonderful man. Full of fun. I will miss him! (TLB Dental)
