Memorial

Vivian L. (Tippie) Johnson, 88, died December 1, 2020 at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids, of complications from Covid-19.  A private burial service was held at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery on December 5.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Survivors include her children Amy Pollitt and husband James of Belmond, son Mark Johnson of Cedar Rapids, and grandson Damon Haberkorn (Meleah Kielty).

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Harold, father and mother- in-law, Alfred and Ione Johnson, brother-in-law, Richard Johnson, daughter-in-law, Janet Johnson, and her husband, Donald V. Johnson. (Nov. 2008)

Vivian was born on June 1, 1932 on a farm east of Belle Plaine, Iowa, daughter of Leslie and Helen (Norton) Tippie.  She attended country school through the 8th grade, graduating from Belle Plaine high school in 1950, valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation, she worked at the local bank where she met the love of her life, Don Johnson. They were married on June 9, 1957, and this blessed union lasted 51 years. Their family was made complete with the birth of a daughter, Amy and a son, Mark.

Vivian was a devoted and loving wife and mother, deriving her greatest joy in caring for her family, and helping others.  She was a long-time, active and faithful member of Lovely Lane United Methodist church and treasured her sixty years in the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Vivian cherished the friendships she made with her church family, Arizona Ave. neighbors, co-workers at Pierce elementary and St. Luke’s P.T. department, members of the Hawkeye Camping Club, the good folks at Live Oak Resort in Arcadia, Fl., her exercise and aerobic buddies, and the residents and staff of the Keystone Community, where she resided the last nine years of her life.

Vivian loved beautiful music, dancing with her husband, supporting her children in all of their activities, camping and traveling, walking and exercising, reading, and most of all, baking all kinds of treats and goodies, which she shared with many. Vivian’s family and friends are grateful for the blessing of her love and life.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Keystone Place and Cedars Assisted Living for their loving care of Vivian and Unity Point Hospice for their support in her final days.
