Memorial
Jim Morgan, a.k.a Hayden Fry, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center from complications of COVID-19. He fought valiantly during his nearly month-long bout with the virus and subsequent complications with pneumonia. His final 12 hours were spent with family by his side providing him comfort. There will not be a service per Jim’s request.
Jim was born November 13, 1941 in Cedar Rapids to Jay and Virginia (Bauman) Morgan. He married Sue Cabrnoch November 10, 1978 in Denver, Colorado. Jim retired from the Linn County Auditor’s office in 2003.
During his life, Jim was a diehard Iowa Hawkeye sports fan, an avid reader of fictional crime novels, and a connoisseur of slot machines. He had a compassionate heart and prioritized his loved ones frequently, helping his sister move to Colorado, going to visit an aunt in Texas with Alzheimer’s disease, and flying to California to dog-sit for cousins who went on vacation. He had a weakness for animals, housing stray cats and showering them in affection. He was blessed with the gifts of wit and humor, possessing a knack for remembering and recounting jokes to the delight of himself and his unsuspecting audience. He loved Jerry Lee Lewis, Neil Diamond, and Elvis Presley. Much like Elvis’s song “My Way”, Jim lived his life and left the world on his own terms and in his own way.
Jim is survived by his wife Sue and their children, Cory and Connor (Nicole) Morgan and his first wife, Anne Sherman and their children Dana and Dan (Joo Hee) Morgan. He is also survived by grandchildren, MacKenzie and Henry Morgan, Brittany Morgan-Dusil, his unborn granddaughter expected in February 2021, his sister Toni Landenberger, cousins Bonnie (Frank) Malone, Sandy (Bob “Bear”) Stevens, twins Kathy and Diane Kirkland, David and Linda Bell; his mother-in-law, June Cabrnoch, sisters-in-law, Linda, June, and Betty Cabrnoch; his great-niece and great-nephew, Morgan and Mason Lundgren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Chard, aunts Ruth Hohmann, Arlene (Gene Phillips) Hutchinson, Alma (Frank) O’Neill, Carol (George) Bell, Dorothy (Ed) Joseph, Bernice (William) Kirkland, Dorothy (Fred) Welsh uncle Everett (Hilda) Bauman, and numerous cousins including Susan Welsh, Nancy Bell, Everett Kirkland, Virginia Marty, Curt Bell, his father-in-law, Richard Cabrnoch, brother-in-law, James Landenberger, and a niece, Kim Lundgren.
