I hardly know where to begin. Mr. Arnold along with Mr. John Hargarty hired me for the 1976-1977 school year as a replacement counselor. I was three days at Truman and two days a Madison every week. What a great way to come into the school system. I couldn't have had a better first principal than Bob Arnold. I was changing from working with Vocational Rehabilitation to working in school systems as we were starting our family and I didn't want to work the year round hours. Mr. Arnold was great!!! His sense of humor, knowledge of the system and the children was inspiring. I looked forward to my days at Madison . I was there when Mr. Arnold reitired and had the pleasure of helping send him on his next leg of his life journey. Fortunately I was Able to reconnect with him at the monthly I.R.S.P. luncheons. I will never forget when he gave his interpration of his Honor FLight Trip to Washington D.C. I laughed and cried and went home wishing I had asked him for a copy of his presentation.
He is truly with the angels, and I know will be missed by many people. Mr. Arnold and I shared many moments especially since the farm my husband I purchased in 1973 is just north of Waubeek where he taught music and our children attended and all graduated from Central City Schools. He will be missed but it is nice to know I will see him again. He was truly a great educator! I too retired from the Cedar Rapids Community School District in June 2003. I spent 8 years in elementary as a counselor and 17 at Roosevelt Middle School.

I attended Madison Elementary in the 70’s and will always remember Mr. Arnold’s kindness and fairness.

I was a privilege to know and work with Bob. He was a dedicated educator who worked to improve the profession.
I knew him in many different capacities. In each one it is true to say that he was good for educators and students. Celebrate his life. He made a difference.
