Memorial

Billie J. Parr, 96 of Cedar Rapids died Friday September 1, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday.

Survivors include her son Geoffrey (Susan) of Hurst, Texas, and a brother James Fenner of Renton, Washington. She is also survived by two grandchildren Katherine Parr of Dallas, Texas; Colin (Sarah) Parr of Denton Texas and four great grandchildren Zoe, Cort, Jude and Collette. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry.

Billie was born on April 15, 1921 in Prescott, Arizona the daughter of Otto and Mae Bumann Fenner. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and her Master’s degree in education from the University of Iowa. She married Harry E. Parr on October 13, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Harry passed away in 2007.

Billie was an elementary school teacher in the Cedar Rapids School District and retired   from teaching in 1984 after more than 30 years of service. She was not only respected by her colleagues but by the many students she taught over the years. 

Billie was a member of the Cedar Valley Bible Church, P.E.O, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the National League of American Pen Women. She enjoyed painting in water colors, and hosted a ladies bible study in her home for many years.

Billie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
