Richard “Rick” D. Zimmerman, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Meth-Wick Community-The Woodlands.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Sharon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Moore officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving includes his wife, Shirley; children, Julie (Brian) Gardemann of Cedar Rapids, Chad (Maria) Lynch of Norfolk, VA, Michelle (Garrison) McCord of Marshalltown, Pennee Lee (Russ) Reyman of Donahue, IA, Fred John (Brenda) Stoeker of Johnston, IA, and Wendy Jo Stoeker of Marion; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Hadrava of Ottumwa, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ricky Dean Zimmerman and seven brothers and sisters.
Richard DeWayne Zimmerman was born October 30, 1933 in Kearney, NE the son of Eugene and Olive (Martin) Zimmerman. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On December 27, 1987, he married Shirley Cooper in Cedar Rapids. Rick worked at Kings Concrete for many years as a “Jack of all trades” (driver, mechanic, maintenance). Rick was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church, Shueyville United Methodist Church, American Legion Hanford Post #5, Eagle’s Club #2272, and Teamster’s Local Union #238. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who enjoyed ballroom dancing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
