Bob Nance

Born in Holdenville, OK
Born on Oct 9, 1927
Departed on Feb 26, 2017

If ever there was a "Class Act" it was Bob. Our thoughts and prayers are with Verna and her Family. Cedar Rapids has lost a "Great One"

My husband and I are truly sorry for your tremendous loss and would like to express our condolences to the entire family. We cannot imagine the great pain and sorrow you are experiencing during this very difficult time. It is our sincere hope you find comfort in knowing that God has promised to "swallow up death forever" (Isaiah 25:8), and that he will resurrect our dear loved ones who have passed away. (John 5:28). May your many great memories help you find peace and comfort as you go through the coming days.

I was not a personal friend of Mr. Nance nor the family. I was in FFA in the late 50's, and certainly heard WMT on farm issues. I live in Mexico now, and a friend sends me obituaries. Often I simply can't remember them. But, the instant I saw his name, I knew who he was and where I heard him. He is part of Eastern Iowa history. My sympathy to all his family and loved ones.

When I was growing up on an eastern Iowa farm in the 1960s, I always wanted to be a farm broadcaster in the footsteps of Bob Nance. In fact, my cousin Kaye was Iowa Favorite Farmer's Daughter in 1966 and met Bob at that time. Later on, I launched my career as a farm broadcaster. In early 1992, I was honored to take over Bob's role at Vigortone Ag Products when he retired from that position. And just within the past few years, I did a half hour interview with Bob while I was guest hosting the WMT Morning Show. Bob was truly a gentleman and a class act, and he will be missed. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all.

Dwayne and I always enjoyed working with Bob when he would fill in on WMT! While I will miss hearing his voice on the air, I will always hear it in my memories. Verna, our condolences to you and your family. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Nance Family-- I remember growing up and going to choir practice at Kenwood Park Pres. with my mom Donna Senninger, and listening to Bob's beautiful voice. I was so sad to hear of his passing. Pam and I went to high school together, and spent a lot of Sunday school time together. Bless your family, and hold his memory dear. Lynne Senninger Smith

Bob was one of the first people I met when we moved to town in 1969. I was County Extension Director. It was a really great privilege to know and work with Bob. He was one of the friendliest people I ever knew, and he was a truly great leader in our community. My sincere condolences to Verna and her family.

Verna and Family: We've known you and your family for over 60 years and we would like to be with you at this time, but will see you in the near future. Singing with Bob was such a pleasure and brings to mind a song we used to sing, "That Old Quartet of Mine". All that I possess I would forsake if just once more I could partake, singing one more song, just one more time with that old quartet of mine.

I was my privilege to know and work with Bob at WMT. He loved what he did and the people he worked with. He was one of the best! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Bob and his lovely family were central to my value formation in my high school years...all were lovely and all were "good folks". Thanks to all of you for being part of my formative years, I will always remember the good times at the trout farm in Hopkinton!

When I first visited the Harmony Hawks Chorus over 20 years ago, I had the privilege of standing next to Bob on the risers. His voice was amazing, but even more impressive was the smile he greeted me with and the encouragement he immediately offered. After the first song we sang, Bob said to the chorus, "We need to get this young man in a quartet!" I've seen this smile and encouragement offered to our chorus so many times since, and that is the thing I will most miss about Bob. Linda and I offer our sincere condolences to Verna and family.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and heartfelt thoughts.

I never meet Bob, and as a farm kid growing up on a farm in the 50's and 60's, I listened to what he had to say many a day on WMT. Always interesting and informational he was an icon in our house. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, especially Pam who I have had the pleasure to know for many years. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Chris and Dave Pate

At times like this one feels the need to keep expressing sympathy to those that have lost such a special part of their life...Bob Nance. His life enriched us all. Verna, trust that God will help the one in need, the strong one that is left behind. You and the family are in my prayers. Chatty Kathy

When I met Bob during an NAFB Convention in K.C., Mo.,he was broadcasting on WMT, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I was farm broadcasting on KGNC Radio/TV, Amarillo, Tx. I remember him serving as NAFB President and his barber shop quartet singing entertainment. Great voice. My deepest sympathy to Verna and family. Royce Bodiford, Odessa, Tx.
