Memorial

Richard W. Gilmore, 62, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday October 9, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Richard’s life from 10:00 to Noon on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son Brad Shanklin (Camille)  of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Carly Gilmore of Florida; two brothers Jack (Judy) of Iowa City and Dan (Patty) of Marion and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard was born on June 14, 1954 in Cedar Rapids the son of Lee and Geneva Dotson Gilmore. He married Jean M. Atkinson on April 18, 2015. 

Richard was a mail handler for the United States Post Office for over 22 years, retiring in 2016.

He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, listening to rock music and playing his drums. Richard was an accomplished gymnast and in years past put on trampoline shows.

He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial fund has been established.
