Memorial

Roger Weber, 60, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Independence, entered peacefully into Heaven on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, after a 6 month battle following complications from a lung transplant. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a vigil starting at 4:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10:30 AM, with a visitation beginning an hour prior, at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Reasoner.  Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. 

Roger is survived by his loving children, Christy Thurman, Cathi (Jason) Miller, and Mike (Becca) Weber; grandchildren, Marcus and Hailey Thurman, Caleb, Jacey, and Callie Miller, and Calvin Weber; his siblings, Margie (Larry) Torgerson, Vicki (Dr. Dan) Kegler, Paul (Patricia) Weber, Glenn (Teresa) Weber, Keith (Deanna) Weber, Mary Kay (Kevin) Christensen; and many loving extended family members, nieces, nephews and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Robby Weber, and a sister, deceased in infancy, Teresa Weber.  

Roger Lee Weber was born January 29, 1953 in Independence, Iowa the son of Raymond and Mary “Monica” Weber (Weber). Roger graduated from St. Johns High School in Independence, with the class of 1971. He attended Kirkwood Community College and received an associate degree in Industrial and Wholesale Marketing. Roger furthered his education by graduating from Mount Mercy College with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration.  He married Sandy Herdlicka (McGrath) on August 31, 1974 in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced but he remained great friends with her and her current husband Dale McGrath. Roger never met a stranger, because he had a fun loving spirit and truly selfless nature. He made it a point to call everyone by name.  

Roger loved spending quality time with family, hosting barbecues, playing sports, playing cards, going to movies, reading to his grandchildren and watching UFC fights with his son-in-law. He still holds the family championship belt for Rummy 500. His greatest enjoyment was his family. Roger truly delighted in his grandchildren, always attending their extracurricular events and mentoring them.  He taught his children and grandchildren what was truly important in life. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, physicians and staff from the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics RSCU unit, the St. Luke’s Hospital 

Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, and the Mercy Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program for their love, support and tender care given to Roger. 

A special thanks to everyone who visited Roger or sent cards, letters and encouraging messages. They were a highlight in his day.
