Lester C. Chittick, 89, of 202 35th Dr S.E. died Monday November 23, 2009 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Beth Mary Straw of St. James United Methodist Church. Friends may call on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Laural Sills and husband Dale of Cedar Rapids and Leone Merchant of Vinton, and a brother, Lyle Chittick and wife Pat of Anthem, Arizona, a brother in law, Amil Steiger of Davenport, and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Clara L. Chittick, and a sister, Lucille Steiger.

Lester was born October 7, 1920 in Hartwick, Iowa the son of Roy and Ellen Mae Peterson Chittick. He married Clara Benish on April 23, 1943 in Greenville, Mississippi. Lester worked for Cedar Rapids Water Department as a Maintenance Supervisor retiring in 1977 after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Elks Club and the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and spending winters in Texas.

A memorial fund has been established for St. James United Methodist Church or Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
