Marcella Ann Stallman, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Mercy Hallmar, following a brief illness, in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 am Thursday, November 9, 2017 at St. John XXIII Church in Cedar Rapids with visitation one hour prior to service. A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel with rosary service beginning at 3:30 pm. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery in Fairfax.
Marcella was born February 22, 1925, the daughter of Francis and Loretta (Nienhaus) Deeny, in Jackson Junction. After graduation from Waucoma High School, she attended Mount Mercy Business College. Marcella went on to work for Wapsie Valley Creamery, Eddy Paper and John Hancock. She then married John “Jake” Charles Stallman on September 24, 1960. Now becoming a farmer’s wife, Marcella left her job to work on the farm. She later returned to Armstrong’s Department Store, where she retired from their bookkeeping department.
Marcella was a member of St. Patrick’s Alter and Rosary Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Fairfax American Legion Auxiliary. Her family and faith were very important to her. She enjoyed reading, knitting and was an excellent cook.
Survivors include her daughter, Jaqueline Stallman; sister, Marion Broghammer; sister-in-law, Corina Deeny; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Bernard (Helen) Deeny, Donald Deeny, Cornell (Laura) Deeny, Charles Deeny; two sisters, Patricia (Bill) Balk and Germaine (Jim) Gibney; and brother-in-law, Charles Broghammer.
